How to use Merge PDF well
Merge PDF combines two or more PDF files into one document in the order you choose. It is useful when separate scans, forms, receipts or report sections need to be delivered as a single file. The merger copies pages into a new PDF; it does not turn the pages into screenshots or rewrite their visible content.
How to use this tool
- Add between 2 and 20 PDF files. Each file can be up to 10 MB.
- Check the file order and drag items into the sequence you want in the finished document.
- Select Merge PDF, wait for processing to finish, then download merged.pdf and open it once to confirm the page order.
Common uses
- Combine a cover sheet, report and appendix before submission.
- Join several scanned pages or monthly statements into one archive.
- Package invoices, receipts or application documents for one upload.
- Reassemble sections that were previously split into separate PDFs.
Privacy and document handling
Files are sent to the PDFTools server because pages from several documents must be assembled. Inputs are removed after processing finishes. The generated file and its temporary download link normally expire within one hour, with an additional cleanup sweep for orphaned files. PDFTools does not keep a permanent document library or use document contents for advertising.
Important limitations
The tool preserves the pages it can read, but interactive forms, portfolios, digital signatures, bookmarks and unusual embedded attachments may not survive exactly as they appeared in every source. A cryptographically signed PDF will no longer have a valid original signature after it is merged. Unlock protected files first when you have permission and know the password. Very large batches should be divided into smaller groups.
Frequently asked questions
Does merging reduce PDF quality?
Normally no. Existing pages are copied rather than rasterised, although unsupported interactive features may be simplified.
Can I change the order?
Yes. Arrange the uploaded files before starting; pages are appended in that file order.
Why do I need at least two files?
A merge creates one document from multiple sources, so a single file would produce no useful change.
Will links and forms still work?
Many ordinary links survive, but complex forms and document-level actions are not guaranteed. Check the result before relying on them.
